The lake is approximately eight miles long and one mile wide. This fresh water lake has a maximum depth of 72 feet with 23 miles of shoreline. For folks who enjoy fishing in the summer, there are lots of trout, bass, catfish, bluegill, and crappie. For non-fishermen, there is jet skiing, water skiing, swimming, sailing and lake cruising. And of course in the winter, skiing, snowboarding, sledding and other winter activities are excellent. The valley receives about 120 inches of snowfall each winter. Big Bear is an ideal year-round resort with four seasons of outdoor activities. Summer temperatures range from in the upper 70's during the day to around 45 at night. Because of the nearly 300 days of clear skies and sunshine, one of the world's six solar observatories is located right on the lake. Winter daytime temperatures are in the 40's and in the 20's at night. FOR WHAT'S UP IN BIG BEAR THIS WEEK CLICK HERE!
