Evelyn

Evelyn was born in California but with a father in the military moved every few years all over the country, even lived 3 years in Okinawa. She is a Ph. D. licensed psychologist in New York and California and has practiced for many years specializing in marriage/relationships. In her practice she successfully combined the principles of the Gottman Method and the Gospel Approach. She also coached small business owners and executives and has worked with law enforcement and military providing trauma therapy.

Johann and Evelyn spent most of their 20 years together in La Jolla, are founding members of La Jolla Community Church and enjoy spending time with family and friends.

Like the Alpenhorn’s founders, Chuck and Robbie Slemaker, Johann and Evelyn also traveled the world and especially love trips to South Africa to visit Johann's family and to enjoy the beautiful game reserves in Botswana and the Kruger Park. During these travels they often stayed at Bed & Breakfast Inns with the aim to offer guests the best of what they had experienced. They aim to continue the vision of Chuck and Robbie:

“To create an Inn that includes all of the delightful amenities that we found throughout our global travels. We enjoy elegance without formality. We appreciate luxury without stiffness or discomfort. We delight in a generous and cordial atmosphere."

We want our guests to slow down and rejuvenate, to enjoy all the recreational activities that Big Bear Lake offers. But most importantly, we want our guests’ stay at the Alpenhorn Bed and Breakfast to be a moment in time that they will always remember.
